| Dear Parents and Students,
I would like to say a very big thank you to the staff and students
of Domremy College for the warm welcome that has been extended to
me since my commencement as School Counsellor. I also acknowledge
my predecessor and appreciate the hard work and effort Malanie De
Silva went to in ensuring student files were handed over in as thorough
manner as possible.
My background is in Psychology and Teaching. I completed my initial
training in Queensland in 1996 and have since worked in Queensland,
Victoria, the Northern Territory and the United Kingdom across the
contexts of School Psychology and Teaching, Child Protection, Child
Abuse Prevention and Therapy as well as Youth Justice. I hold a strong
interest in the area of Prevention Programs and Empowerment, with
the majority of my work influenced by the area of Positive Psychology.
I feel privileged
to be working at a school that is both steeped in tradition and
yet so open to innovative ideas and practices – the
very fact the School Counsellor role exists is in itself testimony
to the school’s progressiveness. Psychology has much to offer
school communities – including the promotion of well-being
and healthy thinking patterns, leadership, relationships, problem
solving and parenting, along with teaching approaches, delivery and
classroom management.
Each fortnight
will include a contribution to the school’s
newsletter, with tips and information also placed onto the website.
Suggestions and ideas from all members of the school community are
more than welcome. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with
you all at some stage as the school year progresses.
